How to Install Android KitKat/Lollipop ROM on Galaxy S2! [GT-i9100/SGH-i777]

For those of you who want to install Android KitKat or Lollipop custom ROMs on your Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 or SGH-i777 (AT&T S2), you must be using latest CWM Recovery v6.0.4.3 or higher.

This method is also same for CM11, CM12, and CM12.1 custom ROMs.

Now since recovery is an integral part of kernel on the Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 and SGH-i777, you will have to flash a kernel with the latest CWM recovery v6.0.4.3 or higher.  The easy work-around this is to install any of latest CM10.2 ROMs then simply reboot into recovery after installing CM10.2, which will give you the latest CWM recovery since CM10.2 comes with it.

CWM/TWRP Recovery

Warning: For GT-i9100 and SGH-i777, installing CWM or TWRP recovery also installs kernel.  This is only recommended to install when installing a new custom ROM.  Installing CWM/TWRP recovery will most likely break the ROM you are running currently as it overwrites the ROM’s kernel.

To use, install CWM or TWRP recovery, then reboot into recovery, and install the ROM as usual.  See How to Install Android 4.4 KitKat ROM on Galaxy S2!

Now, if you are on custom ROM or have problems updating, there’s an easy way to manually update or “unroot” your T-Mobile GS2 to the latest Jelly Bean updates.

By unrooting to the latest Jelly Bean, you will lose root (but it’s easy to re-root, root method is same for Gingerbread, ICS, and Jelly Bean).

Step 1. Turn your Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 off.  Then hold down Volume Down, Center Home, and Power buttons together for about 3 seconds until you see the warning screen.
