  • aseem

i would suggest S4 rom for galaxy s2 which is light with good battery life and great performance .. there is one problem with carbon ROM , it heats the phone whenever any application left open.

    • slasher1986

I prefer Revolution ROM to s4 rom . I will download carbon anyway and give it a chance.

  • knebnn

hi, nice rom! but my wifi doesn’t work. ie cant connect to any network. can anyone please help?!

    • slasher1986

you could just try re flashing it

  • Julian

Didn’t work last time. I reflashed it 4 times on the GT – i9100.
I’ll try again, but I doubt it’ll work.

  • Exxo

I tried the nightly from last friday. This rom doesnt drain the battery and is stable and fast.

  • aseem

There is one more major issue with this rom , and that is the phone restarts by itself …
esp when working with skype and when you tilt the phone u have the phone going off by itself … which is really annoying.

I believe there has to be more work going into this rom before its in the market .

    • Andy

It happens the same to me it also was an issue in previous version but recently it works better. It restarted only one in this version maybe just try to wait like I did.

    • Veer

Hi My phone is also rebooting any solution

  • Xavier

i’m running the carbon rom on my t989 and i had to flash a new radio to be able to use these last roms. i’m planning to flash this rom on a friends i9100 and i want to know if i’m going to need to flash a new radio and which radio should i flash. the phone is running the stock 4.0.3 rom.

  • Edwin

Does anyone know why I can’t mount my external SD- Card when I install this Rom or any other 4.2 or 4.3 Rom?

    • Kyle

Check that your SD is not formatted as NTFS. Because NTFS is a proprietary file system, most custom ROMS will only recognise FAT32

  • richard

great rom, but having problem with voip calls

    • Pepe

Excuse me for the question. What is Voip calls?

      • Xavier

    Where is ext-sd!!!!!!

    • Israel

      Try using Solid explorer.

    • Elric

I’m assuming you’re using the default file-manager ported from CM? You need to go into file manager settings > general settings > access mode and select “root access mode”. External memory is hidden along with root directory by default (don’t ask me why… it’s a CM thing I think).

    • sasa

find a flag at the button, tap on it and you can choose the ext-sd

  • Israel Goldenstein

I downloaded carbon ROM 4.3.1 and almost all is fine:
in setting/Carbon Fibers Navigation option can not be enabled: it stuck my phone.

    Can you help?

    Thanks.

  • Gary

When I install android 4.1.2 gapps, my phone tells me that the gapps process stops working. when I install 4.2.2, my phone will not let me hear anyone that calls me and they can’t hear me. when I install 4.3, my aosp android keyboard never displays.

    model number SGH-1777
    android version 4.2.2
    baseband version I9100XXLQ6
    kernel version 3.0.64-CM-g9c2e2bc build02@cyanogenmod #1 Mon Sep 23 14:38:06 PDT 2013
    CPU ARMv7 Processor rev 1 (v71)
    cyanogenmod version 10.1.3-i777
    build number cm_i777-userdebug 4.2.2 JDQ39E eng.jenkins.20130923.142401 test-keys

If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I really need this to work out.

    • Elric

First can I just double check which Carbon version you are installing, as the gapps package will be different… never install a Google apps package compiled for a different Android build-base.

Also, are you doing a clean install (ie, deleting cache and system etc) before flashing Carbon? Not doing so will lead to issues

      • Gary

        Carbon version
CARBON-JB-NIGHTLY-20131021-0255-i777(2).zip it is full clean install

        • Elric

The Gaaps package you need is the 13/8/13… don’t flash the one dated the 12/8/13 as that is for JB 4.2.2 and will cause havoc

Also, go beyond the usual wiping… go into mounts and wipe/format the system director, as by now you’ve likely corrupted that directory by installing incompatible gapps

  • Pepe

I use this ROM and my phone got stuck in the Samsung screen. I strongly recommend to use a stable ROM like shostock3

    • Elric

I found I had to flash twice on the Galaxy S2… the first time flashes the kernel but won’t load past the boot screen. 2nd flash and all is golden. I think it comes down to getting around the extra hurdles Samsung create which can be frustrating but the end result is more than worth the extra effort

      • Exxo

Maybe u forgot to wipe dalvik after first attempt.

        • Elric

I wasn’t aware one was supposed to wipe the cache after install, only before (still fairly new to the custom rom scene so admittedly much to learn). Why would it not work on first attempt but always work on the second if the dalvik cache wasn’t cleared either time afterwards? You have me curious now

          • Pepe

I did full wipe including dalvik

            • Elric

I know when I first flashed Carbon I already had a patched kernel (PhilZ kernel). Carbon wouldn’t flash and load through to the boot screen until I discovered the option (in advanced settings from memory) to load with modified signature or something along that lines. I remember I didn’t need to load an alternate signature but simply followed the prompts from there and Carbon flashed perfectly fine.

  • rdd333

Does 3g Video call working on this rom???

  • Rich

Hey guys, i have installed this rom among others, i like the customisation options, but really hate the old ICS icons!!
I am very fond of touchwiz roms, and would love to know if i could use the any touchwiz icons instead of the ICS icons i see in this rom.
I installed the s4 JB stock icon pack through CWM, but all they did was appear in my gallery…=[
Does anyone know if this is possible as it would make this Rom my favourite.
Please post if you know if it’s a possibility.
    TiA
    Rich…=]

  • Gary

You might try looking in your system folders and files and see of there is a way to edit a file that shows the icon path and change the path name, save the file, and restart your phone. Maybe it’ll work. If not try upating it through the zipped folder and then reinstall the system again. If it doesnt work im sorry for wasting your time. I havent tested anything like this before.
    —Gary—

    • Elric

Why not just install an icon pack? I haven’t had much to do with the 4.3+ builds so not sure if Trebuchet supports icon-packs only, but I use the inbuilt themer (carbon 1.8) to apply UI skin and make use of Apex to install icon packs…. then you can install almost any icons you want

      • Gary

I’m not really familiar with the icon packs so ya I was just giving you an idea.

        • Elric

That’s OK mate…. it makes life a lot easier that hacking sys files and no need to flash icon packs.

@Rich… it sounds like you installed the S4 icon pack but have not assigned an app with which to apply it. Anything the likes of Apex, Nova etc will do what you require

          • Rich

Ok Guys, thanx for your input, i have not tried to alter system files, before so i will stay away from them for now…=]
I wasn’t aware that Apex or Nova could do that? I haven’t used them since the ICS days, how would i change the icons through Apex or Nova?
I assumed that the icon packs would just install like a Font pack do, but i guess it’s a little more complexed then that.

Anyhow, i will keep trying & maybe ask the peeps at XDA if they have an idea, would be real cool to see how the rom would look with the icons installed.
            TiA
            Rich…=]

            • Gary

Apex and nova are actually launchers that come with their own icons. From what I know you can’t change the icons unless it is something new that I haven’t heard of yet.

              • Elric

They are but technically an icon pack IS a theme and are packaged that way accordingly.

Themes are handled by Apex (and from memory most other launchers) as four component groups: skin, wallpaper, fonts and icons. Icon packs are simply themes which provide icons (and often wallpapers/fonts) with no GUI elements. The beauty of the likes of Apex is that you can apply only the components you need or even mix and match if desired, taking skin from one theme, icons from another, applying fonts either from one or another theme-pack (or in my case leaving the font management to Rom Toolbox) etc. Additionally with the likes of Apex you gain extra customisation abilities like multiple docks etc not covered by Carbon

Currently I use Simplex Blue applied through Carbon’s themer for UI and then load the matching icon-pack and wallpaper through Apex. Carbon’s themer applies at a deeper level but lacks much of the flexibility of most launchers in allowing the end-user to decide how and which aspects to apply.

  • Alex Joseph

Hey i have installed the Carbon ROM 4.3.1. But i seem to running into some problems.
    1. I dont have Play Store. So how do i install it.
    2. I’m not able to sync my contacts from google. Basically i believe the entire google service is missing. How do i get it installed.
    3. Im running out of internal space. How do i clean it up?

My Device is Galaxy S2 i9100

    Thanks in advance

    • Elric

Firstly, did you flash the (correct) gaaps package after flashing Carbon? You won’t play store or Google services until you do. If you are running out of room on your system partition, I would suggest booting into recovery and as well as the standard wipes, I’d also recommend going into advanced options and clearing the /system partition. Then reflash Carbon and Gaaps…. you should have plenty of space left if you do that.

      • Alex Joseph

Hey Elric thanks a lot man. what you suggested was exactly the problem. Done what u said and now it working fine. Im enjoying it a lot. Thanks again

        • Elric

No problems mate… glad to see you got it all sorted

  • matt

i am having problems i have a i777 but it errors when i went to install rom but it allowed me to install the i9100 but my back button and the search button do not work can someone help. do i need to install a diffrent kernel? i went from a i9100 rom but i was using the jeboo kernel to allow it to run on i777 i thought that may be the reason i could not install the i777 version of the rom.

    • Gary

You would be best off to use you jeboo kernel or another kernel that you know will work.

  • julio

    (status 7)
    Installacion aborted -.-

    • Gary

Unzip(extract) your rom zip file. Look in Meta inf folder and subfolders for a file named “updater-script” and open it as a text file with a text editor. Delete all lines from the very start until the word “mount”. Save and close the file. Rearchive all the files that were extracted. Its best to give it a name that you will find and move it to your desired location. Install the rom. Remember to wipe data cache and dalvik cache. The easiest program to use on your phone would be root browser.

  • Milo

Youtube look like shit in this room 🙁
    Everything is so pixelly

  • Julian

    Sorry guys.
I have installed many custom roms and this one just does NOT work on my S2 GT I9100.
I’ve tried all the usual methods and all of the above mentioned.
Once I flash gapps, it restores my account and all of the apps, but when I go to reboot to activate certain “cosmetic” changes (fonts etc) it justgets stuck on the Samsung boot screen.
Either this is a crap rom or there’s something I’m missing.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    • Elric

Have you simply tried clearing the Dalvik after making those “cosmetic” changes? BTW what app are you using to change fonts, as some are quite garbage… I use Rom Toolbox Pro to swap out fonts and Carbon reboots just fine afterwards.

Only other suggestion I could make is to fix permissions in recovery before altering system fonts (remembering that in thanks to Google making this more of a pain in recent builds)… if your permissions are not correct then apps attempting to modify core file to change font can make a mess of things

      • Julian

        Hi.
I do all the wipes before installing and afterwards. The apps all reinstall perfectly. I change the fonts using “font installer” and when I reboot to apply the changes it sticks on the Samsung screen.

        • Elric

Have you tried another utility for changing your fonts by any chance? Remember that the nightlies are based on JB 4.3.1 and many apps on play store have not been fully updated to make 100% compatible, a real issue when an app is patching system files. Try changing fonts with Rom Toolbox (the free version will do) and see how you go… RT has already been updated for latest JB builds so should quickly show if Font Installer is the cause of your problems

          • Julian

Rom toolbox uses Font installer also. Still no good. I tried another 4.3. rom by CM and I still get stuck on the boot screen. Any ideas?
            Thanks

  • ankur

Please help me.i love android 4.3 but since last few updates this rom is draining too much battery.please help me fix the battery.my battery is new and is very good with stock rom.and was also good on previous builds of this rom

    • Gary

Try downloading the battery doctor by KS Mobile. It foes wonders for me.

  • gone

Plz help!! why when I rotate my galaxy s2
On this ROM it reboots it self ????

  • Gary

I don’t know anything about the fonts but about the bootsceeen youll have to do a full wipe including data cache and dalvik cache even if you already have. then reinstall the Rom and other kernel and/or modem it tells you to download. if it doesnt tell you to just install the rom and move on. if it doesn’t boot after that then its not compatible with your phone at all. if it does download goo manager from the play store and download the latest gapps package for your phone.

THE MIC. IS NOT WORKING , WHEN I TURN ON THE LOUDSPEAKER START WORKS .
    PLEASE HELP ME . Thanks

  • Rich

I am having lots of problems with Carbon ROM 4.3.1. It has lots of trouble connecting to WiFi, eats through my battery like crazy–gone in 6 hours with the phone mostly in standby. And, I get multiple Android Process errors when I try using Titanium Backup Pro to restore apps and data from previous Rom—Biftor.

I am going to give Nexus a try.

  • Julian

This Rom is no good. I’ve tried at least 10 times and yes, I do know how to do all the wipes etc etc. It doesn’t work. If it’s not one bug it’s another. Waste of time. Either fix it, or get rid of it. Sorry guys. No good.

  • Janne

    Hi
Installed the rom yesterday and had som problems and it draind my battery real fast the first charge.
Now I am in my second charge and I think its working well, 14 hours and 63% left.
I am new to custom roms and I just wonder if there are updates thru OTA or how do I get updates, do I have to fetch and install it myselt?

  • Caglar Yucel

I’ve been using Carbon since the release and have zero problems. Battery is the best I’ve ever used, charging every two days. Speed is awesome too. Only one trick tough, be sure to use this ROM with the correct gapps version. 13/8/2013 is the correct one. Everthing goes ok.

    • Amby

you’re right. the rom is very good. i installed the latest nightly build Nov 11. Not bad at all so far

    • Amby

You know what? very many of you don’t even know how to flash custom roms. This Rom is awesome.

      • Julian

I have installed at least 20 different roms. I think I know what I’m doing. None have given me the trouble this one has.

        • Edwin

I flashed this rom, with the gaps downloaded from this site, and I had battery drain problems (phone overheating). Even battery doctor couldn’t keep the battery from draining. But after reading Caglar post about this rom and the correct gapps for it, I tried it right away and the overheating went away. Now my power duration is 18h 45m (standby).

          • Rich

            Edwin,

Based on your comments, I have decided to give Carbon another try, What kernel are you using? Modem?

Also, are you doing anything special for the install?

            Thanx in advance,

            Rich

            • Edwin

I don’t know if this info will help since I don’t know where to look up modem info, but I have this:

              Baseband version: I9100XXMXS2

              Kernel version: 3.0.64-cm-g7b9279e
              Mattmanwrx@beastMode #1
              Mon Oct 21 08:39:40 BST 2013

I’ve followed the normal flash steps for installation, but after flashing the ROM and before installing gapps, I wiped data/factory reset again along with cache and dalvik partition.
After installing gapps, I did all the steps again (just to be sure).

              • Rich

OK—Thanx for the info. I will give it a try.

  • Julian

No. I know all about the gapps verion for 4.3. That’s not the problem. It just doesn’t work. random reboots when you tilt the phone sideways? really? Come on. It’s just not good enough. There are more complaints on this forum about this rom than there is praise.

    • Caglar Yucel

Could it be about the kernel then? I’m using siyah kernel, the latest version. I know there are alot of complaints but lets say I’m the lucky one 🙂

      • Edwin

        Hi,

Where can I download gasps 13-8-2013?
I can’t download it from the commander website.

        • Edwin

I have it already.. I used my pc to download it.

          • Rich

            Edwin,

Based on your earlier comments, I have decided to give Carbon another try, What kernel are you using? Modem?

Also, are you doing anything special for the install?

            Thanx in advance,

            Rich

  • mario

I don’t know why there’s to much complains about this Rom. This is one of the best Roms from Carbon it works perfect and good for battery. You must do full clean and good gapps and it works perfect even with it’s own kernel. I changed the kernel with Dorimanx cause of benchmarks Antutu 11120 Standard vs Antutu 11430 Dorimanx. Keep the good work Carbon and thanks Max again.

    • Edwin

Well, I too had problem with the this ROM in the beginning. I flashed it like 4 times, before I was satisfied.
The problem was all with the Gapps for this ROM. On this site they posted the wrong Gapps for download. Luckily few guys in here know more about ROMs and Gapps, so their info helped me.

      • Julian

Ok then. If there was a problem with the link to the Gapps for version 4.3, can someone please post a link to the correct gapps?
        Thanks

        • Edwin

If the moderators don’t have time to change the right download link for the Gapps, then you just have to google it (just like I did) or use goomanager to download the correct Gapps. The Gaaps package you need is the 13/8/13.

          Success!

          • Rich

If I reload GAPS to the 13/08/13, will I have to rebuild all the data in the old apps or will they auto update?

            Thanx

            • Edwin

I don’t think so, but it’s good to have a backup. (even a double backup to be safe)
And even you have to build the data again (except for games), I don’t think it will hurt, if you want a good running system. I will just take an hour or two the most.

              Cheers dude !

              • Rich

                OK—Thanx. Here goes.

  • Zubair Ahmed

I have installed version 4.3.1 on my samsung galaxy S2 i9100.This ROM is by far the best, but the only problem which I’m facing is I’m not able to add apps on my Dock.Everytime I try adding,it will create an enlarged image on dock panel which doesn’t work. Can anyone please tell me how to solve this.
    Thanks in advance.

  • lovejeet sidhu

please help me guys,, i rooted my phone and now i only see the startup flashing screen nothing happens then!!

    advance thanks.. 🙂

    • Xavier

      did you install this rom?

  • Julian

After flashing dormían kernel and refashion the room about 4 times did it work. It’s pretty good. But I’ve upgraded to an S4 now so I don’t need it.

  • foz

I’ve been using this ROM (CARBON-JB-NIGHTLY-20131021-0827-i9100) on and off for a couple of weeks ( flashed it 4 times ). Problems I have had include….
1 – not being able to see the Ext SD card all the while. On 2 flashes its there, and the other 2 its not. I use Rom Tool box Pro root browser and that has bailed me out on the odd occasion.
2 – I lost the radio signal on one occasion and ended up installing a stock ROM and then re installing Carbon to get my phone back to being a phone.
3 – This ROM has forgot my settings when there has been a battery change. Not sure why. Once or twice when the battery has been changed, I have had to run a TB settings restore, to get back to a working phone.

I have NOT had battery issues at all, although I have never had any battery last over 10 hours so this is the norm for me.

If there are similar ROMs to this please let me know as I really like this one, just not the odd “hiccup” that goes with it.

  • Blade Graterol

This ROM is possessed!!!! reboot all the time!!! it freezes… I DO NOT Recommend it!!!

  • ashik

Most awesome rom i ever use in my galaxy s2 GTi9100….Must give a try guys…Most customizable options :))

Well I’ve used it for just over a month now. Brilliant Rom if you don’t mind the regular reboots and lack of remembering the odd account or two.

I think some of you guys are forgetting that this is a nightly. I’ve always found Carbon roms to be really good. I would however say that you have to have patience. While some developers are pushing out Kitkat roms already we are still waiting for Carbon 1.9. Hopefully it will be worth your wait.
