cm10.1-rom-tmobile-galaxys2-sgh-t989

For this week’s T-Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T989 ROM of the week, check out latest CyanogenMod 10.1 RC2 coupled with AOSP Uber kernel.

If you are looking for the most stock-like AOSP (What is AOSP?) experience, definitely you should check out CM10.1 as it’s got less features to break but will give you that solid Google OS experience.

Also, if you need overclocking, flash the AOSP Uber kernel which gives you ability to overclock up to 1.89Ghz.

Overall, the latest CM10.1 RC2 isn’t official “stable” release but it is considered nearly there and you should find some great stability with the latest Android 4.2.2.

Give it a test drive over the week(end) and do let me know how it goes for you!

Download:

Download CM10.1 RC2

Download Gapps

Download AOSP Uber kernel

To install, reboot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset (unless coming from previous version of CM10.1 ROM), install ROM, install Gapps, install AOSP Uber kernel, and reboot!

To fix broken Google Now search, update “Google Search” app in Play Store!

Good rom. Smooth. Stable. I like it. If you like a rom that doesn’t have a million bells and whistles, then this is the rom for you.

  • keanu

How is the “Release candidate” more stable when first of all; it took 10-15 minutes for it to simply boot after it got done bootlooping and shitting on itself, and then when i get it operable, it takes an even bigger shit on itself and won’t let me do a damn thing, and not to mention it will not acquire a signal for the life of it… Someone please explain my dilemma, as I’ve never had a problem with this and I’ve flashed upwards in 30+ roms.

    • Brandon Aybar

I think your dilemma has circumvents your ability to flash a rom. What I’m getting at is your ugly response to this thread.

    • anon

Wow, the developers work to give you an OS to use for free and you complain? Custom roms will never be as stable as the official releases, but it is a trade-off for features that you don’t get on stock firmware.
If you want things to work, just stick to stock.

      • keanu

No developer for this website did anything to this release of cyanogenmod. When you go to the actual website, its the exact same Rom, all they did here was post the same exact thing. All I want to know because their is actually support for this page unlike cyanogenmod, is why when I boot in to rc2 I encounter problems…

  • Keanu

So my ability to flash a ROM is my problems? Please explain to me why it even boots up into the ROM to begin with… I’m just curious as to why this has more problems then the “m snapshots” or even the “nightlies” I’m not here to have the uglyness of my comment judged… I just want a simple analysis of my problem, which is obviously beyond your convenience.

    • Brandon Aybar

If you have a problem flashing a rom, do some research and find out how to do it right.

  • Michael

HELP! I installed the uber kernel, now my phone won’t turn on.

    • Brandon Aybar

      Can you get into recovery?

  • Bodem

    • Chan J

      Did you ever solve it?

      • Bodem

        Chan, no it keeps looping

        • Edgar

what you want to do is go into recovery mode. Factory data reset your phone. Then restore your phone if you did a nandroid backup. But if you want try again do it but this time dont install the UBER zip. Just flash the rom and gapps and it should work. I had the same problem as you and after the second time when i didnt flash the UBER kernel, it worked

  • Fave23

Is there anyway to change the degrees on the home screen from Celsius to Fahrenheit???

  • Jesse

followed instructions and after i reboot my phone it just has cyanogenmod with a circle and will loop and loop? any help

  • Rene

After following instructions rebooted the cell and waited 30 min and nothing just stuck on the cyanogenmod with blinking lights and a circl.. can anyone please help?

    • Edgar

I had the same problem. I just went back into recovery. Reset everything and did it all again except that I didn’t flash the UBER zip and it worked 🙂

  • Omar

How is the battery life with this ROM?

  • rslh

I have the CM-10.0.0-hercules.zip installed. Can I simply update my phone with this Uber kernel? The images are wonky when I use my camera to make a mobile deposit with my Bank of America app, and I heard it’s an existing kernal issue?!

    Thanks for reading.

    • mario

jajaja, and you are making bank transactions with a rooted phone.

  • Michael

Do we need to install the AOSP uber kernel?

    • Edgar

No you don’t. I did it without it and it worked fine for me

  • Hyderabadi

Awesome rom! Best so far. Do you install a separate app to increase the overclock speed? Or its built in setting of the rom? Thanks

  • John

I’m actually having the same issues as Keanu, minus the rudeness. First, I simply updated from the latest cyanogenmod milestone ROM using their built-in update feature. Things seemed to update normally. Upon reboot, apps were upgrading as expected. Then I wasn’t getting any phone signal. I verified my APN settings and attempted to check for a network operator. Both searching for a network or attempting to choose one automatically returns an error. I then formatted my /data, /cache, /system, dalvik cache, fixed permissions, etc. via clockworkmod recovery (touch edition). I formatted my internal storage and external storage and installed cm10.1 RC2 and the appropriate gapps. Still not getting a solid signal. When it does appear stable for more than a few minutes, I attempt a phone call with no success. Please help!

    • John

Update: just thought I’d mention that when I do attempt to make a call, my phone restarts on me.

      • Dustin

I’d be very interested if you get anywhere with this, any nightly I install after april 23 has the same issue, no mobile data, no carrier phone connection, even with RC2. Please update this thread if you find a solution.
        Thanks!

        • John

I have no idea what else to try. I did the freshest, cleanest install I know how and that didn’t work. I just went back to cm10 for now. Hopefully in time the issue will get fixed by those who know what their doing. I would very much appreciate a solution as well from anyone who has an idea of what’s going on.

          • Aditya Dhingra

If you are facing problem with the network signals then its most probably the same issue i faced when i switched to 10.1 Nightly builds. I flashed the latest radio for Jelly Bean . Here is the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400 . It should solve your problem. Once u find the right version of file, save it for further use .

    • keanu

You would think that cyanogenmod would test this in the first place instead of bewildering individuals of the complexities that you have to go through to get something as simple as the phone to work. I’ve tried a couple of radios and they don’t work… they just make it randomly power off. If you get a sure-fire method that relinquishes this signal absurdity, then please post a resolution.

  • John

I may have found a solution…the intermittent signal may be due to an out-of-date radio. I found this website: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400&page=1
and downloaded “SGH-T989-UVMC6 (T-Mobile) 4.1.2 (mirror)”. I’m not sure if doing this will mess up my current configuration, so if anyone else is willing to install this latest radio update and try installing cm10.1 RC2, I would appreciate knowing what would happen.

    • John

I think I got it working! I downloaded the latest radio “SGH-T989-UVMC6 (T-Mobile) 4.1.2 (mirror)” along with cm10.1 RC2 and latest gapps. Wiped my phone and installed the radio+RC2+Gapps and I’m getting a signal! It’s not always at its strongest, but I was able to run a speed test.

When I had the stable cm10 installed, I upgraded the radio as well. My battery was being used up pretty quickly, but I had other stuff going on so i can’t be sure it was caused solely by the radio update. Hope this helps!

      • John

I posted a comment with a link, but wasn’t submitted. It’s just a link to an xda developer page listing a set of radios to download and install via recovery. I downloaded the 2nd one in line, titled ‘SGH-T989-UVMC6 (T-Mobile) 4.1.2 (mirror)’. Refer to my previous comment for a summary of the process. I’m assuming anyone on this page knows how to root properly, so I don’t think I need to post completely detailed steps. If you want me to, please let me know.

Try this SGH-T989D_TLMC4_radio. It works like a charm for me ! You can download it from following link

        • Homage

hey. I’m in Canada so we don’t have Tmobile. i was wondering if ALL of the roms, hacks, roots and everything else for Tmobile worked with the Koodo SGH-T989D?
I am thinking of rooting and installing the CyanogenMod 10.1 to my s2x but i don’t want any chance that it isn’t compatible with my phone and end up creating a glorified paper wait.

          • Zenchu

Anyone has the answer on this? Same, I’m on SGH-T989D and would like to upgrade to CM 10.1, Samsung’s Jelly Bean kills my battery in 8 hours or so

  • Don007

Is the notification light working for you all??? I can’t seem to get it working.
Tried changing the colors and values to Normal for both pulse and speed. Nothing seems to help !

    • John

I’m using SGH-T989. I have no notification lights other than the lights behind the bottom buttons. As far as I know, those can’t change colors.

  • Don007

    John,

Yes those are the notification light i was talking about. When I installed Cyanogen mod 10.0 with jelly bean like features, they used to blink every time i had a miss call, SMS, or email.

With 10.1, they don’t do that @ all. I know they don’t change colors, but the blinking while notification was my favorite and that definitely now is a DEAL BREAKER !!

  • Don007

Call quality is really bad on this ROM.

When u are talking on the speaker, the other person hears his own voice echoing !!

Not trying to bash up this ROM…it’s a nice ROM, just pointing out the negatives for those who are deciding to flash it or not !

  • Kyle

Anyone having trouble getting Bluetooth to work? Mine won’t seem to turn on.

  • Fave23

Just reboot your phone and bluetooth will work fine Kyle…

  • Ryan H

I’m just checking with you guys before I root, then install a custom ROM (CM 10.1 RC5)
note** I’ve never rooted or installed a custom ROM on my phone… ever.

    1) root my Samsung Galaxy S2 (T-Mobile) using ODIN (on a PC)
    2) (after or before???) rooting my phone install ClockworkMod
    3) boot into recovery mode
    4) wipe data/factory reset, install ROM (CM 10.1 RC5)
    5) do I need to install Gapps, then install AOSP Uber kernel, and reboot (is this necessary…? what are the benfits to install these two things?)

    • Edgar

You need to install gapps because that’s where the Google play store, Google maps, etc files are located. If you don’t flash gapps then you won’t get the play store or maps or Gmail. I’m not sure about UBER but I’ll tell you this, I flashed the rom and gapps but not UBER and it’s working for me. The reason I did that is because when I flashed cm10.1+gapps+UBER I got stuck on a bootloop. If that happens to yyou

    • Edgar

You install custom recovery first through Odin and once you’re in Odin you flash the supersu zip. If u have any questions just contact me at toroconalas@gmail.com

  • Aaron

Please note this is not the stable release. RC stands for release candidate. 10.1.2 stable is available from there web page.

10.1.2 seems to be working great so far.

  • menace

Hi, will this work on an i9100?
