I have been extensively testing many Android 5.1.1 ROMs for the AT&T Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 lately. One of the biggest bugs with Android 5.1.1 ROMs for the SGH-i777 model is the absence of audio when talking on the phone. This is circumvented on Android 5.1.1 by simply toggling the speaker on and off quickly. This is sorta annoying for those of you who talk a lot on your phone but if you don’t mind that, you can enjoy all the goodness of Android 5.1.1.
If you are thinking about a good, stable Android 5.1.1, check out the latest Omni ROM. This is a bare-bones AOSP ROM that’s going to get you on the latest Android 5.1.1 without all the additives. I should have more coverage of Android 5.1.1 in the upcoming weeks but for now, this is a very solid ROM to get started as everything works out of the box including your camera, data, voice (with speaker toggle), bluetooth, etc…etc..
At the worst, you can always back up your current ROM, try Android 5.1.1, and go back to your old ROM until all bugs are fixed. For stability, I do still recommend older KitKat ROMs but if you are adventurous, definitely check out the Omni ROM for this week(end) and do let me know what you think!
Download Android 5.1 Gapps (DO NOT USE older Gapp as you will FC!!!)
For installation, please follow How to Install Android Lollipop ROM on Galaxy S2!
To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, install Gapps, install SuperSU and reboot. (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop, reboot into recovery, go to Advanced Wipe for TWRP or Mounts & Storage for CWM, format/wipe /system, then re-install ROM.)
