How to Make OTG USB Host Cable for your Galaxy S2!

Did you know your Galaxy S2 comes with OTG USB Host capability?  You can literally store a ton more data by connecting your USB flash drives, USB hard disks (those that are powered independently), and even use your USB mouse to browse your Galaxy S2.

Well, you can buy one of theses cables on Amazon for like $3-5 but the delivery time is like 3-5 months.  You can also pay $20 for it for faster delivery.

Better yet, why not learn to make your own?

On my first try, I used some electrical tape for wiring and only soldering was needed for shortening the pin 4 and 5 of the microUSB connector end.

Here’s a short video I took while I made mine:

I kinda put everything together in a hurry so next time I will make a more detailed video for you guys.

Sorry, this doesn’t work yet for T-Mobile Galaxy S2 (SGH-T989) and Sprint Galaxy S2 (SPH-D710) but should be supported with Samsung OTA update in the near future.

Sorry about the novel here, but I obviously I don’t know what I’m doing and hopefully someone can help me. Below is my current SGH-1777 “about phone” stats after trying to root my phone. I didn’t understand the root instructions very well (Ya stupid me) and temporarily bricked my phone because after the reboot I got the evil yellow triangle and could see the options you get with clockworkmod, but none of them would respond. I also probably screwed up more by downloading he very popular ROM manager.

So I reconnected my bricked phone to my PC and put the phone in download mode and reinstalled the stock kernel which I had saved earlier and the phone works normal again, but still has all the installs from the root process in “about phone” which are:
    Android Vs 2.3.4
    Base band Vs 1777UCKH7
    Kernel Vs 2.6.35.7
    Build number UCKH7

So what was I trying to accomplish by rooting my phone in the first place? I was pis… off at Samsung and AT&T because part of the reason I bought this phone was for the NFC feature and wanted to use Google Wallet. I also read where rooting the phone improves battery life and get rid of all the bloatware AT&T stuck me with.

Also currently in my software list I still see I have Superuser and the ROM manager. When I go to the boot option now I no longer see the options I should with clockworkmod installed properly but the folder is still in my folder list.

So the bottom line here is, do I start all over and how do I do that or am I just missing a piece of the puzzle?
I think one mistake I accidentally made was using the ODIN 1.82 instead of the 1.85 but when I try to PDA the 1.85 the PDA screen flashes for a second and disappears.

    Newbie needs help!
