For this week’s T-Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T989 ROM of the week, check out latest Carbon ROM bundled with latest Android 4.3.

Carbon ROM Android 4.3 now comes with animation menu that allows you to fully control all of your transition animations.  This is one of my favorite features and Carbon Team has done a fantastic job of bringing customization so you can change every little transition animation to your liking.

Other than that, you will find same UI/system customization found in 4.2.2 version sorta like AOKP ROM Control Settings.

As for kernel, the Carbon ROM ships with a kernel with up to 1.836 overclocking support so you can run your phone super fast on bleeding edge of Android 4.3.

Overall, Carbon ROM is an excellent choice that gives you a ton of customization, performance, and great battery life.  If you haven’t tried latest Carbon ROM, definitely give it a go this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

Download:

Download Carbon ROM for T-Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T989

Download Android 4.3 Gapps (for all, DO NOT USE Android 4.2 Gapps, they will FC!)

Download Flash Player APK (if you want flash player)

DownloadAndroid 4.3 PhotoSphere (if you want photosphere, but may force close so make a backup of your Gallery app using Titanium Backup app before installing!  )

To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, install Gapps and reboot.   (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop, reboot into recovery, goto Mounts & Storage for CWM, format /system, then re-install ROM.)

    TMo Wifi calling work?

    • Aaron says:

AOSP = NO TMOBILE WIFI CALLING. If you want WiFi calling you need a ROM build of a stock touchwiz T-Mobile base. Stick with Shadow or JDMT

The reason Sweep2Wake wasn’t working in the Demo was because Interactive has screen wake lag. If you were to have used Ondemand it would have worked flawlessly. Next time right?

I can’t download the ROM or the gapps. Ever time I click on download it just keeps bringing me back to the same page. It acts like the page just refreshes or reloads. Any help would be appreciated thank you

Hi guys. I need help. I’ve been running the jellybean rom for quite a while. After some months of using this rom, one day my phone just crashed and shut down by itself. I tried turning it on, but it turns off by itself before finishing the “Deviant Development” loadscreen. Also, I tried getting into TWRP so i can reflash rom but the phone turns off before getting TWRP loaded. Im thinking about maybe flashing a rom through a computer if that will work but im unsure on how to do so. Please help me.

My first ROM. Installed without a problem thanks to the detailed information here.
Having problem with the camera. Both camera and Focal apps are causing lockups and automatic reboots. Camera Freezes on set location dialog box. Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?

  8. Aramis says:

Everything is working fine but if I restart the phone it hangs.
Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?
I love this Rom by the way I was on JediMindTrick6 that was awesome too!!

  9. fidelio says:

I also noticed that with this ROM it is only connecting via 3G. Any way to use 4G with the Carbon ROM?

  10. Seth C says:

The rom works great, love on the nifty extra features, the only problem I’ve ran into with it is that while listening to audio through my bluetooth headphones the bluetooth feature will turn off and not start back up unless I restart my phone.

Hey I had the exact same problem! I couldnt restore a previous ROM and I couldn’t factory data reset it. What I did to fix it was install a different type of recovery on my phone. It isn’t the official clockworkmod recovery but it is another one based off of it. This worked for me, hopefully it works for you guys too

  12. Mark says:

I love this rom!! I’m having a problem with rebooting, when ever I reboot It gets stuck in a boot loop. Any suggestions?? Thanks. ~Mark~

    • Dean says:

      Mark,
I love the rom too, I am having same issue. I always have to do a battery pull on restart…some times i have to do it twice. The only other problem I have had is if I try to open camera in landscape mod phone locks up until camera app closes. I have learned to live with those two shortcomings.

  13. KSplizza says:

So I installed this ROM and for some reason when I try to restore my apps it keeps saying insufficient storage. I go to my Storage and see that I 199 MB free to use and none of the apps I’m trying to restore are will cause me to go over this amount. Please help

  14. Vaibhav says:

same here …!! Dear Max plzz help whenever i reboot it stucks nd phone doesnt start plzz help plzzz i love this rom alot!!

  15. Xavier says:

    working fine fine

    • Xavier says:

total crash after using focal camera app. had to darkside superwipe and install everything again. so far so good.

for all that are having problems make sure you have an up to date radio installed and do a darkside superwipe before installing the rom and gapps. that always helps me out. if you still have problems after that you might of gotten a messed up download, so download the rom again and gapps and verify that the new downloads are the correct size.

this rom did take a while longer to boot than any other rom i tested. (it was stuck on the carbon logo for about 5 to 8 minutes) just leave it alone.

      • fidelio says:

Can you please clarify in up to date radio and where i can access it?

        • Xavier says:

          google search and download

          t989 uvmc6 radio

i found it on the xda forum. to bad i can’t place a direct link here.

downloaded and flash it like you would flasha rom from recovery.

I’ve been having problems with audio and gallery. Music sounds like there is static and skips a little bit at the start of every song no matter which music player I use. And I get a crash and phone resets when I use gallery.

    • tony says:

Seriously fuck the developers for making a ROM that fucks up everytime you open your gallery take pictures and play music!!! what good is a phone now if you can’t do half of the stuff you’re supposed to. rating 1 star for half assing the job and wasting my time and mainly pissing me off when trying to take pictures at my grandpas funeral yesterday and not being able to share ANY of them because they didn’t save.

      • Aaron says:

First developer create these rooms for free, and don’t make you use them. Second the camera and gallery app issues are a known problem, so if you did some research you would have known that going in. It is a problem with 4.3 in general on our device. I personally believe it is a problem with focal camera app from cm, if you notice most roms based off cm have started removing this app.

I have no crashing with the gallery, but I started with a clean pic folder and never used focal.

        • tony says:

Why comment if you’re going to waste someones time? I’m not an idiot I did my research I read all of the problems and tried it anyway to see if I couldn’t fix anything. Who on earth wants to wipe their pics all off their phone and not share them? No one does except you. And obviously you don’t have much to comment on here or using the word ROM when it isn’t even saved in your personal dictionary. Peace out double A ron

          • Aaron says:

Seriously!!! Do you not recognize that your comment that I responded to was nasty?

Sorry that your comment didn’t make me want to help you.

  17. Kemar says:

    Is this stable?

    • tony says:

I wouldn’t recommend it. A lot of things crash and the service isn’t as great as the previous version of carbon I would stick it if I were you. You love the other carbon from

    • Aaron says:

Yes this is stable. Works fine for me only minor issues. Use it as DD. Newer version available on car.

  18. Cristobal says:

Bro i have a big problem in normaly reboot. i press the turn on button but the screen is frozen black =( Please help me, and reinstall carbon but dont working =(

  19. Aaron says:

Developers on xda have updated this Rom multiple times. Just keeps getting better.

  20. Richio says:

I keep getting the Android keyboard not working pop up and have no idea how to get rid of it. I have recently flashed Romsey and updated and wiped cache’s and dvlk or whatever cache all with no improvement. Can I reinstall the keyboard from titanium back up? If so. What is it called?

    • Aaron says:

It is called android keyboard. You can try to freeze it and download the app from the playstore. Google has it for free, it is called google keyboard.

  21. Nemanja says:

Hi all! I am using this ROM for 6 mounts, great ROM except crushes when go to gallery and camera. Really hope so that Carbon team will fix that and make future updates. Thanks for your work!

  22. EddieJR says:

Does anyone have any suggestions? This is my first attempted ROM install on my (T-Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T989). I’ve followed the install instructions as described to install the Carobon ROM but have run into a problem during the “wipe data/factory reset”. My phone seems to stop processing when it reaches the “Formatting /cache…” This is what is displayed on my screen:

    ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.3

    — Wiping data…
    Formatting /data…
    Formatting /cache…

I am unable to get past this point.
